Studio Etiquette

1.                 Be sure to introduce yourself to those that you don’t yet know, and make visitors and new members feel welcome.

2.                 Please remove your shoes as you enter the Studio. Place them neatly at the entrance. Neaten the other shoes as well.

3.                 The bow is a symbol of respect. Always bow as you enter and leave the studio, when you see an instructor, when you enter and leave the training area, and at the beginning and end of your class. Bow from your heart with depth. Help others improve their bow.

4.                 Students who fail to bring the appropriate equipment to class can learn by watching their class from the side.

5.                 No gum, food, or open drink in the training areas. No hats in the studio.

6.                 Always keep your conversation and actions of a positive nature. Boisterous behaviour, foul language, and loud talking are not permitted in the studio, unless part of the training. You are expected to show courtesy and respect to others at all times. You will receive the same in return. A disrespectful or unkind attitude towards others will result in dismissal.

7.                 Support your studio by telling others how much you enjoy your classes. Invite them to try a class. You can have as many VIP Guest Passes as you like. Students who show this kind of enthusiasm will be rewarded in many ways.

8.                 Please turn cell phones off. If you must keep it on, turn the ringer off.

9.                 No jewellery or heavy makeup shall be worn during class. Please leave all your valuables at home. Fingernails must be trimmed to avoid injury to others.

10.             Students are expected to attend their regular scheduled classes. If you must miss your class please let us know. Poor attendance will result in dismissal.

11.             This is a formal training. Please wear your uniform to every class, including a Kung Fu uniform top, pants, and training shoes, a Kung Fu t-shirt may be worn in the warmer months.

12.             Address your instructors as Mr., Miss, Sir or Ma’am. This includes assistant instructors.

13.             If you are late for your class, sit and wait at the back of the class for the instructor to invite you in. If you need to leave ask permission first.

14.             Poor posture and leaning indicates a lazy spirit; always maintain good posture.

15.             Under no circumstance will any member teach martial skills to others, whether students or other. Always teach others life-skills by being an example of the Black Sash Attitude!

16.             Members of the Black Sash Club must strive to live an impeccable life.

17.             If you smoke, you should stop – it’s not good for you. Until that time, please exercise your self-discipline by refraining from smoking around the studio.

18.             If you find anything that lacks integrity within our walls, tell us right away.

19.             No sparring without the expressed permission of the attending instructor.

20.             Be sure to remind your instructor of any health conditions or injuries that may prevent you from full participation.

21.             Never speak poorly of other styles and/or schools. We are all one family.

22.             Enjoy your time with us. Train hard and have fun!
