Our School
At Beyond Kung Fu Studios, not only do we
teach fitness and self-defence skills, we also teach the inner-games
of self-esteem, success, and joy as a foundation for greater
academic, social and behavioural excellence.
There are many
advanced teaching and learning techniques that are utilized by all
of our teachers. These techniques can accelerate a student’s
learning beyond any perceived limitations that they may have had.
Our system of
Martial Arts combines Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic learning
which can accelerate a child's performance far beyond present day
results. The Beyond Kung Fu Studios programs are designed to bring
maximum results in the areas of Mind, Body and Emotions.
How
martial arts instruction will benefit you and your child:
Beyond Kung Fu
Studios’ programs work hand in hand with a child’s school work,
providing improved self-discipline, self-confidence, mental
alertness, and goal setting skills.
Young people are
taught that through dedication and remaining focused, all worthwhile
goals in life are possible. Parents have attributed their child’s
improved school grades as a direct result of our program; improved
achievement, motivation, and self-confidence come as a direct result
of our training.
Goal
Setting
At Beyond Kung
Fu Studios, every child’s goal is the Black Sash. Black Sash is a
symbol of excellence in the martial arts and an important tool for
instructors and parents to use for developing desire, tenacity, and
for teaching the importance of follow-through in achieving goals in
life.
Proper
use of Skills
It is constantly
stressed to all of our students that martial arts skills give a
physical advantage over others, and never to use these skills
offensively, but only for self-defence. In fact, we find that as
students become more confident in their physical skills they
actually become more courteous and kind to other people.
Home,
School & Work Life
Students are
encouraged to foster caring relationships at home. The foundation of
martial arts training is respect for others. Whether at home, school
or work students learn to give themselves to their tasks
wholeheartedly and with a positive attitude, for this is the
foundation for true success in life.
Character
Development
To be sure that each student is developing
mentally as well as physically, they are educated about the virtues
of the Martial Arts as a complement to their physical training.
Unfortunately, much of what a child learns as they are growing up is
what ‘not to do’. Our program focuses on what ‘to do’. Each month we
teach a different attribute of success with a discussion in class.
Some of the topics discussed in classes are:
Self -
Esteem: Self-esteem is how
an individual feels about them self; the inner self-talk that each
of us engages in daily. Before you will protect yourself against a
negative influence you must see yourself as valuable.
Gratitude: To nurture
appreciation of those around you and your position in life is a
skill of the enlightened, enabling rapid growth in an individual.
Helpfulness: Being helpful
promotes healthy self-esteem in both the giver and the receiver. Our
students experience this first hand by participating in our
community development projects.
Confidence: Confidence is
powerful communication to others through voice and body language. To
be successful in life you must present yourself in a way that earns
the respect of others.
Goal
Setting/Focus: The mind is
a powerful tool when it know what it is working toward. We teach
that you can achieve any goal that you set for yourself - but you
must decide clearly what the goal is, and then remain focused on
that outcome.
Self-Discipline/Perseverance:
Perseverance is what kicks in after the enthusiasm of your original
commitment has run out. You must learn to rekindle your energy and
press through any obstacles, whether physical or mental, to attain
your goals.
These, and other topics, are
an important part of the Beyond Kung Fu Curriculum.
Please Note: These are just
a sample of the many topics that will be discussed in classes. We
incorporate stories, discussions and role-playing to allow students
to experience first hand the benefits of these positive attributes.
